Montes Burritos started as a straightforward promise on West Milam Street in Mexia, Texas: hearty, satisfying food that actually fills you up. That promise hasn't changed — it's just traveled a little farther down the road.

It started at a brick building on West Milam Street in Mexia — no frills, no pretense. Just burritos done right, with straw hats on the walls and a dining room full of regulars.
When Dallas came calling
The Dallas Observer took notice, running a feature under the headline "Montes Burritos Fuels You Up" — big-city recognition for a small-town spot that never needed it.
Five towns, same standard
From Mexia, Montes grew to Whitney, Cleburne, Granbury, and Dallas — same generous plates, house salsas, and handmade tortillas at every stop. The zip codes changed; nothing else did.
The tortillas make it
Guests drive in from all over just for the homemade tortillas and salsas — red, green, and made fresh. One reviewer put it simply: "The salsa is probably the best I've ever eaten from a restaurant."
Bad English, good burritos
There's a chalkboard sign behind the counter that says it all — "Bad ENGLISH good BURRITOS" — and it captures something real about this place: warm, unpretentious, and more interested in feeding you well than impressing anyone.
